Elderly people’s personal alarms rendered useless by BT digital phone rollout
As many as 500,000 elderly vulnerable people could be unable to call for help.
Users of personal healthcare alarm systems face being unable to call for help if they have a medical emergency, as BT’s digital phone rollout will render many devices useless, the telecoms watchdog has warned.
BT and other providers are replacing all traditional landline phones in Britain with “new voice over internet” phones that makes calls using broadband by 2025.
Decades old copper line network has become too complex to manage.
But it means many Emergency Pendants which are strapped to a wrist or worn around the neck as a pendant in case of a fall or serious medical incident, such as a stroke or heart attach which use analogue phone line technology to call up relatives or the emergency services will cease to function.
Customers face upgrading to new devices that work with the new technology.
We at Sentinal 24/7 would like to reassure our customers that all our Alarm systems will work on the digital system and we also can use mobile SIM networks for areas with poor signals to maintain customer’s service and wellbeing.
If you have an existing Alarm system please call us on 0800 041 8165 and we can discuss the options to switch over to us.
